Substation Structures

Newcross

National Grid, under The South East Electricity Substation Alliance, undertook the regeneration of Newcross substation to meet the ever increasing demand within the Central London areas. As part of this Kelvin Energy was employed  by Alstom Grid to undertake the design and supply of 275kV GIS support structures platforms and associated steelwork.

Kelvin Energy has numerous years’ experience dealing with overseas GIS equipment manufacturers such as  Alstom, BHT and SEH and was able to utilise this expertise to develop a variety of solutions for a site which contained a number of different challenges.

Kelvin Energy attended regular design meetings with Alstom Grid to discuss various interface issues and worked closely with the cable designers to ensure the most feasible solution was achieved. During these design meetings it was possible to discuss site constraints and equipment access requirements which assisted in the development of the bespoke solutions.

The Newcross redevelopment has been through many phases over the past few years and Kelvin Energy has supplied over 200 tonnes of support structures and access platforms to date with the redevelopment set to continue for a number of years yet.

Kelvin Energy have always prided themselves on the ability to offer bespoke structural solutions which address all the necessary site specific equipment and interface issues which arise. Newcross was another example where the client relied heavily on this knowledge and was greatly appreciative of the front end design interfaces Kelvin Energy were able to offer.
